A dream to cast, only wish it came in left hand. paired with the Akios AirPower 435 RXP SRS Continental Surf Rod. This combo sends baits right where they need to be.

Here's a quick review of

Here's a quick review of this new reel I got from Dion at LureMe , The brand new Akios Nitron F-15

I've been fishing upside down, back to front (as my pal Callum calls them) reels for a number of years now. AKA Overheads, Conventional or Multipliers they're definitely something a lot of people struggle with but after a month or sos' patience & development of expert bird's nest unpicking skills they're a delight to use.

The only issue I've had with my Akios 551 & 651s (though not much of an issue really) is the slow retrieve rate of these reels. I love the fact that when playing a fish the star drag is right there to flick either way to control what's going on with the rod. The Nitron F15 with its gearing solves the retrieve issue givng a ratio of 6.2:1 - this provides 34" or a tad over 86cm per turn of the handle and the star drag is right there for ease of use.

The Nitron looks like it should, being called an f15 - with stealth mode looks! It's constructed from a composite material & therefore unlike my other overheads is not subject to corrosion - a well thought out design & use of materiality.

I've not caught a decent sized fish on it yet so I can't comment on the drag capabilities but with a stated 12kg it will be more than enough for anything off our beaches (unless you enjoy the tug of war games with big sharks). Carbontex drag washers within.

How does it cast?

I've had it out 3 times now & it's bloody fast as standard. Straight out of the box, put the mag brakes at half way, though got more confident as the evening went on & got down to about a fifth braking! Remember these are fishing situations, not a casting day! The reel sings as the spool spins - super smooth with great control from the 'clicking' knobby. The clicker is a great development as shows you where to set the mag!

So is there anything wrong with it?

Yes, it only comes in a right hand wind version, which as a back to front winder is going to get some getting used to. That's it, my only complaint. I know the markets small in NZ for overhead surf reels & there's not a great deal to choose from, but if you do use them you will not be disappointed with this. I love it!
